Canada Council for the Arts

Sandra Meigs Portrait

DOCUMENTARY

Every year the Canada Council for the Arts honours the county's greatest visual artists at the Governor General Awards ceremony. Held in Ottawa at Rideau Hall the prestigious event is considered by artists as a crowning achievement and a humbling recognition. BRC was commissioned by the Council to create a film on Governor General Awards winner, Sandra Meigs. Going beyond the surface of the story, Sandra's paintings revealed a deeper meaning. When she began the series, she was mourning the loss of her husband and slowly found catharsis through her art. These paintings portray a very personal account of her grief and loss. The film aired at the National Gallery of Canada and on all Air Canada flights across the country.
